SCHOOL BOARD PROCEEDINGS

The Avoyelles Parish School Board met in special session Tuesday, February 18, 2014, at approximately 6:30 p.m. at the School Board Office with the following members present:

Darrell Wiley, President; Freeman Ford, James Gauthier, Shelia Blackman-Dupas, Lizzie Ned, Michael Lacombe, Van Kojis, and John Gagnard.

            Absent:   Carlos A. Mayeux, Jr., Vice-President.

1.         On motion by Van Kojis, seconded by James Gauthier, the Board adopted the minutes of the regular Board meeting held Tuesday, February 4, 2014, as printed and mailed to Board members and published in The Weekly News, official journal of the Board.   MOTION UNANIMOUSLY CARRIED.

2.         Superintendent Dwayne Lemoine presented revisions to the 2013-2014 School Calendar due to the recent closure of the public schools on February 11, 12, and 13, 2014.  Mr. Lemoine proposed the following option for the Board’s consideration:

Mardi Gras Holiday on March 3-4, 2014:  Changed to full instructional days for students to make up for days missed on February 11 and 12, 2014.

May 20 and 21, 2014:  These days were originally half days for students.  These days will now be full instructional days to make up for day missed on February 13, 2014.

A motion was offered by Michael Lacombe, seconded by Shelia Blackman-Dupas,  that the Board adopt the changes to the 2013-2014 school calendar as proposed by Superintendent Lemoine. 

The motion was adopted by the following vote:

Ayes: Shelia Blackman-Dupas, Darrell Wiley, Michael Lacombe, Van Kojis, and John Gagnard.

                        Nays: Freeman Ford, James Gauthier, and Lizzie Ned.

3.         President Darrell Wiley announced that the next School Board meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, March 4, 2014, at 5:00 p.m.

There being no further business, on motion by Freeman Ford, seconded by Michael Lacombe, the meeting was adjourned.
