SCHOOL BOARD PROCEEDINGS

The Avoyelles Parish School Board met in special session Tuesday, January 13, 2015, at 5:00 p.m. at the School Board Office with the following members present:

             Van Kojis, President; Michael P. Lacombe,Vice-President; Freeman Ford, Darrell Wiley, Chris Lacour, James Gauthier, Shelia Blackman-Dupas, Lizzie Ned, and John Gagnard.

             Absent: None.

             1.          On motion by Darrell Wiley, seconded by Chris Lacour, the Board adopted the minutes of the regular Board meeting held Tuesday, January 6, 2015, as printed and mailed to Board members and published in The Weekly News, official journal of the Board.  MOTION CARRIED.

             2.          A motion was offered by John Gagnard, seconded by Lizzie Ned, that the Board go into Executive Session for the purpose of interviewing potential candidates for the position of Superintendent of Schools, as follows:   (1) Alison Andrews, (2) Debbie C. Bain, (3) Spurgeon A. Banyard, Ph..D., (4) Bianca W. Brown, Ed.D., (5) Blaine M. Dauzat, and (6) Charles S. Michel, Ed.D.

                           Mrs. Thelma Prater, Assistant Superintendent, addressed the Board regarding a list of pertinent information she provided to each Board member, which includes a sample rubric, information sheet regarding qualifications for superintendent, and a scoring sheet.

                           President Van Kojis stated that each Board member will submit their scoring sheet to Mrs. Prater in order for her to tabulate the results. The Board members will be notified on Wednesday with the results and the applicants will be emailed regarding the results.

                           An amendment to the motion was offered by Darrell Wiley, seconded by Lizzie Ned,  that the Board judge each candidate based on each Board members’ questions on a scale of zero to five and when the questions are completed all the scores are added with a total of 45 points maximum; and that the Board go into Executive Session.  MOTION CARRIED.

             3.          On motion by Mike Lacombe, seconded by Shelia Blackman-Dupas, the Board agreed to reconvene in open public session at approximately 8:35 p.m.  MOTION CARRIED.

                           President Van Kojis announced that there will be a special Board meeting Wednesday, January 21, 2015, at 5:00 p.m. to interview applicants who placed in the top three position.

             There being no further business, on motion by Freeman Ford, seconded by Darrell Wiley, the meeting was adjourned.
