SPECIAL MEETING OF THE AVOYELLES PARISH SCHOOL BOARD

AUGUST 17, 2021

            Special Meeting of the Avoyelles Parish School Board met Tuesday, August 17, 2021, at approximately 4:30 p.m. at the School Board Office with the following members present:

            Stanley Celestine, Jr., President; Jill Guidry, Vice President; Thelma J. Prater, Interim Superintendent; Latisha Small, Lynn Deloach, Chris Lacour, Robin Moreau, Chris Robinson, Rickey Adams and Aimee Dupuy. Board Members; Supervisors, and Coordinators.

                        An Invocation was offered by Supervisor of Secondary Education, Dexter Compton.

            The meeting opened with the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag of the United States of America led by Board Member Chris Robinson.

1.         Stanley Celestine, Jr., President, spoke about being in the final piece of the search for Superintendent. Mr. Celestine discussed how they conducted interviews which lead to the three final candidates Dr. Curt Green, Dr. Cheyrl Ensley and Karen Tutor from there they had a Town Hall meeting where the public was allowed to ask questions.

Stanley Celestine, Jr. President called for a roll call vote. The roll call vote was carried by a 6:3 vote as follows:

                        Dr. Curt Green: Latisha Small, Stanley Celestine, Jr. and Chris Robinson

                        Karen Tutor:      Lynn Deloach, Chris Lacour, Robin Moreau, Rickey Adams, Jill Guidry and Aimee Dupuy

                        Board Member Chris Lacour congratulated the three candidates.

            2.         Latisha Small addressed the board with discussion on the number of COVID cases and transitioning into the Hybrid Model.

On motion by Latisha Small, seconded by Chris Lacour, the board voted to transition to Hybrid. MOTION CARRIED by a 3:5 vote as follows:

                        Yays:    Latisha Small, Chris Lacour and Stanley Celestine, Jr.

                        Nays:    Aimee Dupuy, Chris Robinson, Lynn Deloach, Rickey Adams and Robin Moreau.

On motion by Chris Robinson, seconded by Lynn Deloach, requested to recsinds their votes and motion requested to be brought back up. Motion Carried by a 7:1 vote as follows:

                        Yays:    Latisha Small, Lynn Deloach, Chris Lacour, Stanley Celestine, Jr., Chris Robinson, Rickey Adams and Aimee Dupuy

                        Nays:    Robin Moreau

On motion by Chris Lacour, seconded by Rickey Adams, the Board recommended to go Hybrid from August 24, 2021 through November 1, 2021 and re-evaluate again at the October 5, 2021 regular board meeting. Motion Carried by a 7:1 vote as follows:

                        Yays:    Latisha Small, Lynn Deloach, Chris Lacour, Stanley Celestine, Jr., Chris Robinson, Rickey Adams and Aimee Dupuy

                        Nays:    Robin Moreau

            There being no further business, on motion by Chris Lacour, seconded by Chris Robinson, the meeting was adjourned.
