Title I Teacher Aides

The Avoyelles Parish School Board is committed to providing high-quality professional development that will improve teaching and learning for all children by providing an avenue for teacher aides to become licensed and certified teachers.  Therefore, the School Board shall require all Title I teacher aides to earn a minimum of three (3) credit hours of Child Development courses from an accredited college/university each year while employed by the Avoyelles Parish School Board.  Should a Title I teacher aide fail to pursue and complete one course during a given year, he/she shall be placed on probations during the next school year.  During the probationary year, the teacher aide shall be required to pursue and complete two (2) undergraduate courses from an accredited college/university; that is, one course to make up for the previous year and one for the current year's requirement.  Any teacher aide who fails to satisfy the probationary conditions of completion of the two (2) undergraduate credit courses shall be recommended for termination of employment.  Title I teacher aides who will complete retirement on or before the 2003 implementation date required by Federal statutes shall be held harmless and not be required to earn the three-hour course during each school session.
