CLASS RANKINGS

The Avoyelles Parish School Board, in order for class rankings to be determined on a uniform and consistent basis throughout the schools of Avoyelles Parish, shall identify and certify the achievement of those students in each graduating class.  Each school shall determine the student rank in each graduating class by dividing the total number of quality points earned by each student by the total number of high school credits completed.  Foreign exchange students and other non-residents shall not be counted as members of the graduating class for the purpose of class rankings.

  1. The ranking of graduating seniors shall be based on a quality point average to the fourth decimal place.  The quality-point average shall be based on the grades for all units taken by students to include all required courses for graduation plus all accepted electives.

  2. Units earned through special programs in which grades are assigned and which are accepted by the school shall be considered, with limitations, in the ranking of students.

  3. Students who graduate at the end of three years of high school or at mid-term of the fourth year of high school shall be considered for honors and shall be ranked in that year's graduating class.  Summer school graduates shall not be considered for honors and shall not be ranked in that year's graduating class.

  4. Students who enter college on a full-time basis for their senior year and earn their high school diploma while in college shall be considered for honors and shall be ranked.

VALEDICTORIAN AND SALUTATORIAN

Ranking for valedictorian and salutatorian students shall be determined by the cumulative averages to the fourth decimal point of all grades received for academic core courses required for graduation plus all accepted electives.
