GRADUATION EXERCISES
No students shall be allowed to participate in commencement exercises until they have successfully completed a minimum of twenty-three (23) Carnegie units, as prescribed by the Louisiana Board of Elementary and Secondary Education. Special Education students must meet all program requirements to receive a certificate of completion and participate in commencement exercises.
Graduation exercises in the public high schools will be held not more than eight (8) calendar days prior to the closing date of school unless an emergency should arise, in which case more time may be granted by the Superintendent. A parish graduation shall be held in August for all students who did not graduate in May, but became eligible to graduate by August. This would include those students who went to summer school and passed as well as those students who passed the LEAP examination. A parish graduation shall be held in January for students who complete high school in December. Students must have completed all high school graduation requirements by this time to be eligible to graduate early.
EXCEPTION: Students currently serving on active duty or a reserve component (National Guard or Reserves) of the United States military shall be eligible to wear the designated military uniform appropriate for a graduation event in lieu of a school’s cap and gown.
The Avoyelles Parish School Board, recognizing the limits of space and seating arrangements for exercises involving large groups of people, has granted permission to the various principals for restricting attendance at graduation.
