STUDENT ACTIVITIES

The Avoyelles Parish School Board believes that the student activities at school are a vital part of the total educational program and should be used as a means for developing wholesome attitudes and good human relations, as well as knowledge and skills.  The School Board believes that school citizenship, as reflected in student activities, is a measure of the achievement of important school goals.  The School Board recognizes that the greatest values to be derived from both curricular and extracurricular student school activities occur when such activities are developed and encouraged through participation among, or the knowledge of, the student body, interested members in the community, and school staff.

The School Board further believes that any program of student activities should:

  1. Require all student participation to be on a voluntary basis;

  2. Participation in activities or any organization shall be open without regard to race, gender, or handicap;

  3. Selection committees or groups, whether comprised of individuals and/or teachers, administrators, or experts which select students for participation in any school-related activities, shall be comprised of thirty-three percent (33%) or more minority members;

  4. Require that student activity funds should be used for purposes which benefit the student body of the school;

  5. Require that the management of student funds be the responsibility of the organizational sponsor and the school administrator.

OUT-OF-STATE TRAVEL

The Avoyelles Parish School Board desires to help students or groups of students, financially whenever they earn honors and as a result, need to travel out-of-state.  The School Board shall allow an amount limited to $250.00 per year for the same student or group with the following conditions:

  1. A student is holding a recognized parish, state, or national office that requires out-of-state travel;

  2. A student receives an academic award which requires out-of-state travel; or

  3. A group of students (bands or clubs) receive an award or to attend an out-of-state function.

This policy shall exclude athletic activities.
