STUDENT AWARDS AND HONORS

The Avoyelles Parish School Board realizes the importance of recognizing outstanding achievement attained by students.  The School Board authorizes the Superintendent to maintain a set of criteria and procedures for presenting letters or other suitable awards to students for distinguished services in any school activity.

The aim of any awards or honors shall be to encourage as many pupils as possible to strive for high achievement in scholarship and school citizenship.  Eligibility criteria for an award or honor shall be clearly established and be as objective as possible.  The selection of the recipient of an award or honor and/or the selection of nominees for the award shall be the responsibility of the school and shall be conducted in accordance with the criteria established for the respective awards and honors.

AWARDS PRESENTATIONS AND RECOGNITIONS

Scholarships may be recognized, but not presented, at the graduation ceremony.  The principal will approve which scholarships and awards are to be recognized during the graduation ceremony.  Principals will only consider scholarships that are approved ahead of time and determined to have eligibility criteria and a formal selection process.  Only school board personnel will speak at graduation ceremonies; however, other entities may be present and recognized upon principal approval.

Scholarships will only be presented at the school's academic awards ceremony.

ATHLETIC AWARDS

The selection of students for all athletic awards, such as trophies, medals, jackets, sweaters, etc., shall be the responsibility of each school.  Selection shall conform to all Louisiana High School Athletic Association rules.
